Lanzones Festival in Camiguin
It has been a long time since I have tasted Lanzones. The thought of its juicy transparent contents dissolving in my mouth brings back memories of my childhood. Those carefree halcyon days after school exams, were times spent playing “tumbang preso”, “patintero”, or made-up games with neighborhood kids under the sun. I lived and grew up in a province that was not far from Camiguin and it was during those weeks after the Lanzones Festival that authentic “Camiguin grown” Lanzones would start arriving in our province. It has always been the practice of people from Camiguin to sell Lanzones outside their province only after the festival. So do not believe those market vendors claiming to sell “Camiguin” Lanzones outside the province before the festival, because these are not authentic Lanzones grown in the sulfur rich soil of Camiguin.
Unfortunately, even though I lived quite near to Camiguin, I never had the opportunity to take part in the Lanzones Festival. Blame it on having parents that hated the mad rush of the event and being contented with the delicious Lanzones that were readily available afterwards. Graduating from highschool and moving to Manila for college erased all hope of ever partaking in the festival. Hopefully, the “PICK-A-FEST” promo of AirphilExpress and Cebu Blog Camp for free round trip tickets to Camiguin via Cagayan De Oro, will allow me to realize a long lost childhood wish.
